Overview Membership in the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy
of Elder Law Attorneys (Mass NAELA) is available only to attorneys
who are members of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).
Membership confers many benefits, including discounted costs for
a variety of continuing legal education programs, including:
- Seven dinner or breakfast programs per year focusing on the
most recent developments in significant elder law topics.
- Subscription to the "Massachusetts NAELA News," which
provides feature articles on current elder law developments, recent
fair hearing and court decisions, and other forms and documents
essential for the elder law practitioner.
- The annual New England Elder Law Institute and the annual New
England Elder Law Symposium, both sponsored jointly with Suffolk
Law School, which offer in-depth exploration of important elder
law topics.
Members may also subscribe to the "Massachusetts
Listserv," which offers the opportunity to discuss specific
legal or practice related issues with colleagues online. Members
benefit from the unique, cooperative atmosphere of Mass NAELA which
affords networking and practice development opportunities for elder
law attorneys. Experienced elder law attorneys, attorneys new to
elder law, and new attorneys benefit from a sharing of practice
tips and strategies, and other ideas for professional development.
Members work closely with other organizations dedicated to serving
elders and making legal services more accessible to all clients
and can pursue opportunities to influence legal reforms and public
policy. Benefits of Membership
With more than 550 members, the Massachusetts Chapter is the leading
group for elder law practitioners in the Commonwealth, as well as
the largest state chapter of the National Academy.
Benefits of membership include:
The Chapter newsletter. Seven Chapter newsletters throughout
the year bring members the latest in fair hearing and court decisions,
updates on state and national legislative and regulatory changes,
and practice tips on hot topics. Access to the chapter and national listservs. By subscribing
to the chapter and national listservs, members can draw on the
collective expertise of elder law practitioners across the state
and around the country. Whether seeking substantive law guidance
or recommendations for office software, members benefit every
day from the ability to post inquiries via email to an entire
network of elder law colleagues. Reduced tuition and meal prices. Members are entitled
to reduced tuition and meal prices at seminars and meetings sponsored
by Mass NAELA or co-sponsored by Mass NAELA and other organizations
such as MCLE and Suffolk University Law School. The $100 annual
Chapter dues are more than completely recouped through these reduced
prices available to members at programs through the year. Promotional value. Chapter membership is an important
indication of your dedication to elderlaw. Potential clients can
find you geographically through the Chapter web site. Find
an Attorney. Educational opportunities. Regular meetings, Chapter newsletters
and the Chapter listserv are simply the best way to stay abreast
of elder law developments in the state. Topics range from substantive
law and administrative and civil procedure to ethics and practice
management. Guest speakers, seminar materials, the listserv and
the newsletter all serve to enhance members' knowledge, professionalism,
and practices. Networking opportunities. Regular meetings throughout
the year offer the chance to network with elder law colleagues
from across the state as well as with professionals in related
fields such as geriatric care management, institutional and home
health care, financial planning, and insurance. Opportunity to Serve. Members are eligible to vote for
and serve as officers and directors of the Mass Chapter, a Massachusetts
Chapter 180 nonprofit organization, and to serve on vital committees
