January 14 Dinner Meeting
Newton Marriott
The vitality of the Mass Chapter was evident as we set a new record
in January 2003 with a soldout dinner meeting of 190 attendees.
Another 30 wanted to register but could not be accomodated by the
Marriott's room capacity. Special arrangements were made to audiotape
the presentations and provide the audiotapes and materials to those
30. Several hot topics for elder law attorneys drove the record
attendance as well as the presence of popular educator Emily Starr
on the panel.
The dinner meeting topics were truly cutting edge. The Mass Chapter
is the first organization to analyze in depth and offer solutions
for the new Massachusetts Estate Tax. It is the first to offer a
detailed look at the new Division of Medical Assistance regulations
affecting the Community Spouse Resource Allowance and who may represent
an applicant. These DMA regulations affect all of our members, and
while the CSRA regulations are similar to regulartions from several
years ago, many of our members have never had to cope with the difficulty
they present. Finally, the Mass Chapter is to our knowledge the
only organization in the country to analyze and present solutions
to the issue of whether life estates are eligible for basis increase
under IRC §1022 once the federal estate tax is repealed.
Don't miss the February multi-site breakfast meeting!

Attendees network and relax before the meeting gets underway.
